Buying a new home and moving safely
Buying a home and moving is apparently one of the most stressful things in life. So the added stress of today’s restrictions makes it feel all the more daunting. However, with new homes it’s a little more straightforward, and even during lockdown we were safely reserving and completing home sales, and our buyers have been moving in.
Now that restrictions are being eased a little, the Government has released new guidelines for moving home safely. Here at Brick By Brick, we have got all the necessary digital tools up and running to offer video viewings and safe handovers. So while our central Croydon shop remains closed at the moment, we are still very active matching buyers with properties, with Croydon residents still getting priority.
How to view your new home
Throughout the pandemic we have been offering video viewings – which are available in three different ways, as outlined in our blog. This will continue, for your first viewing at least. After the initial video viewing you will have the option either to reserve fee-free or to have an ‘in person’ viewing of the property of your choice. Register your interest or check out our available homes.
We kicked off our digital launch of Pump House in South Norwood with an Instagram Live, when sales manager guided viewers around a home with the architect also live on video talking through some of the key features. Follow us on Instagram and register your interest in a development to find out when and where our next Instagram Live will be.
WhatsApp live video viewing
During a WhatsApp video viewing a member of our sales team will guide you round your selected home as they normally would during a viewing, via a video link. You’ll be able to see what the home looks like and ask any questions you may have. These viewings need to be booked in advance, and usually you will need to complete a financial affordability assessment before booking your appointment.
Pre-recorded video viewing
We have pre-recorded videos of most of our available homes, created by our sales team. If you’re interested in viewing a particular plot, contact our sales team and they can send you a link. You are then welcome to contact them with any questions that you may have. Usually you will need to complete a financial affordability assessment before you can view.
‘In person’ viewing
Now that the Government has eased restrictions, we are able to show our homes to serious buyers in person. Please note this can only take place once a virtual viewing has taken place.
For the safety of our staff and customers the following is in place:
- only one member of our staff will be at the home for a live WhatsApp viewing in order to minimise social contact
- only two people will be able to view a home (in addition to the sale consultant) for any face to face viewings. Regular handwashing and social distancing will be mandatory
- at the end of viewings our sales consultants will clean any surfaces that have been touched (such as door handles)
Reservation and the sales process
Financial advisors, mortgage advisors and any other support you may need are still open for business right now. If you need support with this, our sales team can help you find the service you require.
Moving home safely
With the correct procedures in place, it is possible to move home now**. New builds are a great option, as you do not have to worry about the home having been previously lived in, and the buying chain is shorter and therefore likely to have fewer issues. New builds have been considered safe to move into even during lockdown.
We are here to support you in any way we can. You are still allowed to use moving companies to support your move, and furniture companies such as Ikea are still delivering. With many homeware stores such as B&Q, and Garden Centres reopening, there are still plenty of easy ways to furnish your new home.
What about affordable rent homes?
Croydon Council manages and assigns all affordable rent and council tenancy homes. Please click here for more information
You can email our friendly sales staff [email protected] or call them on 020 3034 2565. They’re happy to answer any questions you may have!
*Fee free reservations require you to instruct a solicitor as soon as possible after reserving. If you have more questions please ask a member of the sales team when you reserve.
**Please note if you are shielding a family member or are at high risk from Coronavirus, now might not be the best time to move home. But this obviously does not affect video viewings! Please contact our sales team if you have any questions about this.
